In February, 2005, Deborah Belton organized the Shawl Ministry with 16 knitters that came together for fellowship, prayer and to make items to be distributed to anyone needing a little comfort. As time passed, we had ladies from other churches join our group, now making hats, scarves, blankets and quilts.
As our Shawl closet began to fill, we were mailing and delivering items to children's care centers, nursing homes, oncology centers, and to special people with love from our church. We sent shawls to friends north, south, east, and west, even to people in China that needed to know they were in our prayers.
Each item was sent with a prayer attached and labeled with love from Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church.
During the last 12 years, we have lost many knitters but 4 remain: Susan Witt, LaVonne Smith, Claudia Deans and Lois Jean Lawson. They do a great job keeping the ministry going. LaVonne has made many baby quilts to be given to newborns of many friends.
Our knitters feel love and dedication to be able to make something that carries a special gift from our church for anyone who needs God's love at any particular time in their life.
