Greater Bassett Area Community
Greater Bassett Area Community was organized in 2010 as a nonprofit volunteer organization for the purpose of improving the Bassett Community. Several members of our church are active in both the planning and work carried out by this organization.
2010 was a time of high unemployment, factory closings and factories being torn-down. Historically, local industries had quietly taken care of the community, but they were struggling and unable to continue those services.
The funds needed to operate have come from concerned citizens living in the area or having connections to the area.
Our major accomplishments are landscaping several streets, planting and maintaining shrubs, mowing, trash pickup, as well as curb cleaning. A community farmers market was established in the historic train station, and is open during summer months. Street lights were installed in the dimly lighted areas of the town. Free musical entertainment “Rhythms by the River” is provided several times during the summer for the public’s enjoyment.
We also, sponsor a Thanksgiving service that is provided by area churches. The love offering from this service is donated to the local food banks.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve the community. We are proud of our accomplishments, but more proud of the support the community is providing through volunteering and financial support.
